Job Description

Job Title: Bartender

Division:  KC Hopps

 

Summary:  Bartenders first priority is to take care of the guest as outlined in the KC Hopps training manual. Must check the identification of guests who order an alcoholic beverage and appear to be under the age of 30.  Must be professional, polite and reliable. Must be able to learn and describe food and all alcohol/beer/wine proficiently.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): 

 

  • Follow the KC Hopps Steps of Service (when guests are ordering food):
  • Develop a good relationship with bar guests.
  • Anticipate the guests’ needs before they ask. 
  • Answer guests’ questions and always ask questions of the managers if you don’t know the answer to the questions asked by the guest.
  • Take guests’ order for food and beverages in a friendly manner.
  • Must be in full uniform and ready to work at scheduled time.
  • Try to upsell liquor whenever possible.
  • Mix all drinks according to KC Hopps recipes using correct glassware.
  • Pour all beers/wines to KC Hopps standard using correct glassware (if applicable).
  • Fully learn the food and drink menus and pass all necessary quizzes/tests.
    • Welcome the guest.
    • Suggest 2 specific beverages.
    • Inform the guest of the features/specials.
    • Suggest 2 specific appetizers.
    • Up sell the order.
    • Suggest another drink.
    • 2 bite/2 minute check back.
    • Suggest 2 specific desserts.
    • Suggest after dinner drinks or coffee.
    • Check presentation/reconciliation.
    • Offer/sell guest rewards.
    • Welcome back and thank the guest.      
  • Must inform management of any issues with the guest so the manager can resolve if needed.                                           
  • Must do side work during the shift and after the shift. 
  • Must turn in accurate cash outs and credit card slips at the end of each shift.
  • Must possess good cash handling and be able to make change quickly.
  • Must be able to multi-task making drinks for bar guests and servers simultaneously.
  • Must claim 100% of tips.
  • Must have good Mindshare/Secret Shopper reports.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at charity and community events.

  • Come prepared for each shift to work and put your best foot forward (good attitude, proper uniform, bank, and pens).

Education/Experience:

Previous bartending experience is not required.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as training manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before guests.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to operate the Point of Sale computer systems like Micros.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

In the city of Kansas City and North Kansas Ciyt, Missouri, a food handler’s card and liquor card must be obtained.  

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

When in the position of “head bartender”, an individual must check out fellow team members to manager’s expectations.

Pay Rate:  

Missouri - $3.63/hour + tips

Kansas - $2.13/hour + tips
